Converted from the old Springfield Mill that once stood on the outskirts of town, the Riverside Inn was once one of several corn mills in Chelmsford.

The Domesday Book tells of a mill on this site, but the present 17 th century building was closed as a mill in 1901 and became a pub in the 1960s.

Sensitively restored, the Riverside Inn is a large and attractive buildingwith the old mill stream running underneath it from the River Chelmer.

The two main bar areas enjoy the charm of exposed brickwork and original beams, and the bedrooms are cleverly fitted in and around the large roof beams. Some of the old mill gears have even been preserved in the bar area.
